My name is Ashley Hays and I have a love for all things fitness! I have a strong passion for nutrition and helping others look and feel great.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't always had a love for fitness or yoga, but I have always loved food! I have had many ups and downs with my weight. I've been anywhere from a size 0 to a size 12. The past several years have been a big struggle for me. It's always hard before it gets easy, though.
To know more about me, you'll need to know the three people in my life who are the driving force behind everything I do - Aaron, Alexis, and Henry. They are my biggest supporters and the loves of my life. Before I met this wonderful man, I was a single mother. I did my best to stay active and to eat well. My mother had passed away suddenly a few years prior and I was at a low point in my life. That's when yoga found me. I didn't find yoga. The impact my very first yoga practice had on me was unforgettable. It was and continues to be so good for my mental and physical being.
Along with yoga, I set goals for myself. I ran a half and full marathon, competed in a CrossFit competition, participated in the 2015 CrossFit Open, and completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. I was so proud of my accomplishments! The one thing that didn't make sense to me was why was I not proud of the body I saw in the mirror. I was extremely active and, I thought, I should look super fit! I upped my CrossFit to 5-6 times per week and I just kept gaining. I was pushing 160 lbs on my 5'5" frame and really unhappy with the way I looked. I kept telling myself it was the muscle I was gaining, but let's be honest, that's B.S.
That's when flexible dieting found me. A friend of mine was counting macros and I was intrigued. I did some research and immediately had a million questions running through my head. What are macros? What is IIFYM? Can I really eat pizza and doughnuts? Where do I start? I took a recommendation from that same friend and hired a coach. That is when my life changed and the real journey began.
Yes, I was active. Yes, I had gained strength and muscle from CrossFit. Yes, I did more than enough cardio. No, I was not properly fueling my body. Turns out, I actually needed to eat MORE and do LESS cardio. I had metabolic damage from the poor nutrition and calorie restriction I had adhered to while thinking that was how to lose weight. Instead, it made me gain weight!
I've learned so much over the past several years and continue to gain more knowledge now that I have tracked my macros successfully over the course of my second pregnancy.
My journey is far from over and I'm fortunate enough to be a coach, myself. I refuse to let others feel like I did once upon a time. My goal is to empower my clients through nutrition and fitness. You can have your cake and lose weight, too!
